So I’m browsing the articles over at Simple Mom when I come across this article in her green and frugal living section about washing your face with natural and cheap homemade cleansers.
A cleanser like oil.
Yes, you read that right. I too did a double-take.
In How to Clean Your Face Naturally, she advocates washing with extra virgin olive oil and castor oil (something I’ve never purchased or used). I’m very curious to try this as my skin is a freakish combination of oily/dry and will randomly break out with acne while other times it’s perfectly clear.
So curious to see how my little experiment with this goes. It is cheaper and definitely easy on the environmental impact.
So be honest – would you wash your face in oil? W

Not only would I do this, I do it every morning! I have insanely sensitive skin, along with dry patches, oily patches, and acne. The only thing I’ve found to handle all of this is olive oil and honey every morning. I apply it at the begining of my shower, and then at the end of the shower I just wash it off with a bar of cetaphil. It has kept my skin very well moisturized and amazingly balanced. I tried just the cetaphil, just doesn’t work that way. Another bonus, after you’ve applied the oil and honey to your face, run what’s left on your hands over the ends of your hair, it prevents split and brittle ends.
I have not tried it with honey! The castor oil didn’t quite do it for me but we’ll see how the honey works.
Thanks for the tip!
I make a homemade scrup using sugar and olive oil. Great for rough patches all over your body, including your face. There isn’t any need for lotion afterwards, either!
All oils other than tea tree oil have been proven to cause breakouts. If you have flawless skin & aren’t prone to breakouts, this may be an option for you. However, if you have mild to severe acne, using oils other than tea tree oil is going to eventually cause you to breakout. It could take days to weeks but it’ll happen. If you’re going to use oil to wash your face, make sure it’s tea tree oil.
